HR Mandi Bhav, New Delhi: There is a provision of compensation at the rate of Rs 500 per billing cycle if the bill is not given to the consumer for two billing cycles after taking the electricity connection.

This was stated by the Consumer Council after a case came to light in the capital Lucknow where a 46 KW electricity connection holder was not given electricity bill for a year.

Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma said that despite such intensive monitoring in power companies, the Power Corporation should seriously consider the indifference being shown in this manner.

There has been a demand for 100% implementation of the compensation law so that every problem of consumers can be resolved within the stipulated time and compensation can be given in case of its violation.

He said that like Lucknow, there are many such consumers across the state who are not issued bills after taking the connection. They keep making rounds of the offices.

The Council Chairman said that Section 7.7.2 (D) of the Electricity Distribution Code-2005 provides that if the first bill is not issued to any electricity consumer within two billing cycles from the date of providing electricity connection, then the consumer will have to be paid a compensation of Rs 500 for each billing cycle of delay. The electricity companies will also have to submit quarterly reports of such cases to the Regulatory Commission.
