These corridors include the expansion of the Pink and Magenta Lines along with the new Silver Line corridor. There will be a total of 45 new metro stations on these three corridors.
According to the information, the construction of the 12.3 kilometer corridor from Majlis Park to Maujpur i.e. Pink Line is expected to be completed by March 2025. Whereas the construction of Janakpuri West to RK Ashram i.e.
Magenta Line and the new Silver Line from Airport to Tughlakabad can be completed by March 2026. However, DMRC is planning to open the 2 km underground section from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension for operation in July this year.
Track laying work still in progress
Krishna Park Extension is the only station on this 2 km section of Janakpuri West-RK Ashram corridor. According to a DMRC official, tunneling work on both sides has been completed and work at Krishna Park Extension station is in its final stages. Track laying work is still going on.
DMRC officials have said that more than 45 percent civil work has been completed in the three corridors. Despite initial hurdles due to the pandemic, construction work on the Phase IV corridor is progressing well.
More than 50 percent work completed
About 49 percent civil work on the Magenta Line extension from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg has been completed. Once the 29.2 km long Janakpuri West-RK Ashram corridor is operational, it will connect with the existing 37.4 km long Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor.
At the same time, more than 50 percent work of Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor has been completed. Finishing and roofing work is going on at its four stations - Burari, Jharora Majra, Jagatpur Gaon and Khajuri Khas. Currently superstructure work is going on on Yamuna bridge. This 12.3 km long corridor is an extension of the Pink Line from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, making it the longest line in the DMRC network.
About 40 percent work of the Airport-Tughlaqabad section has been completed. A tunneling stretch from Kishangarh crossover to Haujarani ramp has been completed.
Construction work is ongoing at Tughlakabad Interchange station, which includes construction of station box, completion of D-walls for the platforms and underground parking facility. Work has also started on the airport interchange station.
Construction of 11 new interchange stations
In the fourth phase, out of the total 65 km, 28 km will be underground and bridges will be built for the rest. The expansion will include construction of 11 new interchange stations, including Janakpuri West, Peeragadhi, Pitampura, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, RK Ashram Marg, Airport, Chhatarpur and Tughlakabad.
The only station connecting the three corridors
Azadpur Metro station will become the second 'triple interchange facility' of the network, connecting the Yellow, Pink and Magenta lines in the fourth phase. Kashmere Gate is currently the only station connecting the three corridors. All three corridors will have three double-decker viaducts, with a metro viaduct on the upper deck and a flyover on the lower deck.
These double decker viaducts will be located between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar, Azadpur and Ashok Vihar Nagar stations and Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar stations.
