Who prints notes?

The Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India have the right to print Indian currency notes. Only the Reserve Bank prints rupee notes. 

The Finance Ministry issues the one rupee note. Furthermore, the Reserve Bank of India has the right to print any type of currency notes.

How is the decision to print notes taken?

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cannot alone take the decision to print notes. He will have to take permission from the government for this. 

The government also takes full consultation with RBI before taking this decision. Only after this the final decision is taken. The Reserve Bank of India or the Government of India can take such decisions only after keeping in mind several rules.

What are the rules for printing notes?

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) makes a rule called Minimum Reserve System for printing notes. Minimum Fund System is also its name. This law was made in 1956. RBI is allowed to print notes as per requirement after keeping foreign securities worth Rs 200 crore and gold worth Rs 115 crore as collateral. 

Where are notes printed

Notes are printed only in government publications. There are four printing centers in the country – notes are printed in Dewas, Mysore, Salboni and Nashik.
