Farmers Of Punjab: The government and the canal department have prepared a roadmap for the construction of the dream project Malwa Canal. On Saturday, CM Bhagwant Mann reached the Sirhind-Rajasthan feeder near village Sotha in district Muktsar and inspected the construction work.
He said that for the first time in the history of the state after independence, a new Malwa canal is going to be built to supply water to the farmers of South Punjab. He took information from the officials and said that the Malwa region has gone into the dark zone. Chief Minister Mann said that this canal will benefit the farmers of 62 villages in three districts of Malwa region, Muktsar, Ferozepur and Fazilka and two lakh acres of land will get canal water.
Chief Minister Mann's dream
My dream was that when I come to power, the first thing that should be done is to provide canal water to the farmers of Muktsar, Ferozepur and Faridkot. Now, a 149 km long, 50 feet wide and 12.5 feet deep canal is going to be built at a cost of Rs 2300 crore, which will irrigate 2 lakh acres of land with canal water.
Two lakh acres of land irrigated
The establishment of the "Malwa Canal" in Punjab will help irrigate about two lakh acres of land in the state, ushering in a new era of unprecedented development and progress.
As per the plan, the canal will be constructed from Harike Headworks to village Waring Kheda on the left side of the Rajasthan Feeder Canal. A part of the canal will also be built on the land of the Rajasthan State Government.
The construction of Malwa Canal was extremely important for the state
When the demand of Ferozepur feeder is high during monsoon season, the entire demand of Punjab cannot be met, affecting the supply of Sirhind feeder, hence construction of Malwa Canal is of utmost importance for the state. The situation became so bad that Punjab had to run its canals on rotation.
302 lift pumps are running to irrigate the area on the left side of Rajasthan Canal which was initially irrigated by Sirhind Canal System (Abohar Upper Branch and Bathinda Branch) from Ropar Head Works. Sirhind Feeder Road.
